Our Story & Values

The Pohanka organization started as a single-service repair facility back in 1919 in Washington, DC. Since then, our group has grown to a family of 21 dealerships throughout Northern Virginia, Maryland, Washington DC. and Texas. The Pohanka Automotive Group was founded based on a set of firm beliefs – making it easy for the customer and the team member, delivering excellent customer service, and establishing long-term relationships. Those philosophies are a primary reason we are the oldest, continuously-operating automotive dealership group in Northern Virginia. 

We know that happy employees are those who enjoy their work atmosphere, work hard, and are justly rewarded for their efforts. We love to promote from within, as evidenced from one employee who started out as a lot porter and is now a General Manager and part owner of a thriving Pohanka dealership.

Awards

Having great employees also results in great achievements. The Pohanka Automotive Group has won many awards including the Time Magazine National Quality Dealer Award, the Sports Illustrated AIADA All-Star Dealer Award for outstanding customer service, and commitment to the industry, the community and the nation; and the Distinguished Service Citation from the Automotive Hall of Fame. Pohanka is the only dealership group to have received all three of these awards. In addition, Geoff Pohanka was the 2023 Chairman of the National Automotive Dealers Association.
